Vote NO to AV

Unsure how to vote in the AV referendum? Watch this film to see how AV works and why you should vote ‘No’.

About the Alternative Vote (AV) campaign- What is AV?

Under AV – the Alternative Vote – the voters rank candidates in order of preference and anyone getting more than 50 per cent in the first round is elected. If that doesn't happen, the candidate with the fewest votes is eliminated and their second choices are allocated to the remaining candidates. If no candidate at the second stage has a majority of votes, the next lowest candidate is eliminated and their votes are redistributed. This process keeps on occurring until a winner emerges.

Do you really want to let the politicians decide who runs your country?

The winner should be the candidate that comes first, but under AV the candidate who comes second or third can actually be elected. That’s why it is used by just three countries in the world – Fiji, Australia and Papua New Guinea. Voters should decide who the best candidate is, not the voting system.

It's your choice to make it right. Your vote will make a difference .
